Borneo Summer 2013: 7 nights/8 days
Lush and bio-diverse rainforest on the island of Borneo is steadily battling the expansion of
logging and palm oil plantations. One of the most dramatic impacts of these activities can be seen
on the orangutan population. Join us next summer for an unparalleled adventure into Borneo
where we will spend time with some of the world's most respected orangutan experts.
Our stay in Indonesian Borneo will be balanced by visits to ground-breaking community-based
organizations working to preserve the rainforest while providing long-term sustainable livelihoods,
as well as exploring waterways, fishing camps and villages.
We are currently exploring opportunities to participate in a release of orangutans back into the wild
The release will occur at a private site not visited by other guests to the island. This will bring our
experience full circle: from orphanage to re-introduction into their natural habitat.
As an optional post trip extension, relax, unwind and reflect, we suggest Java with three nights at
the beautiful Amanjiwo, which overlooks Borobudur, UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s
largest Buddhist sanctuary framed by four volcanoes, and where you can trek in Mt. Merapi, explore
temples or simply rest at the spa. Or perhaps an amazing resort in Bali or experience the amazing
city of Singapore.
(This is an exceptional opportunity to get young family members - teens and older - engaged in
discussing environmental issues.)
NOTE: Itinerary is subject to change.
