PHILANTHROPIC JOURNEY IN ADVANCE OF VACATION A family, with children in their late teens and 20's, are planning a family vacation to East Africa (safari). The parents would like to use this as a learning opportunity for their children. They would like to spend four days before the safari looking at projects that focus on water issues. Indaba researches appropriate projects, refines a short list with clients, plans the journey, hosts discussions on the ground to connect experiences to clients' philanthropy. (We can also provide connection to top travel companies with local expertise for the safari.)
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY Parents contact Indaba, on behalf of their son, who is in college and very interested in public health and would like to spend time in a developing country focused on this issue. They want something substantive and are concerned that many "volunteer" opportunities don't have much real work to do or did not provide access to the key decision-makers on the ground. Both parents and son want a deep learning opportunity that serves as a solid foundation for graduate school. Indaba can identify an organization given a client's interests and objectives, reach out to an appropriate non-profit or for-profit social enterprise and co-develop a unique internship or service opportunity. The experience is then designated an appropriate donation to the organization, to compensate them for staff time.
DONOR TRIP FOR NOT-FOR-PROFIT One of the best ways to spotlight the impact of a not-for-profit's work is to be able to bring their most dedicated high-end donors out into the field to meet with local staff and beneficiaries. However, staff resources both at the head office and in the field are often constrained, and effectively curating site visits and planning travel logistics are not within their expertise. Indaba is the perfect partner that can advise on effective site visits, itinerary development including tourism opportunties, security, logistical support and marketing materials. We also help coordinate pre-trip calls/webinar for participants and prepare fundraising staff. Most importantly, Indaba stays behind the scenes so the organization shines.
TRAVEL COMPANY'S CLIENT Travel company's client requested to visit a charitable project which focuses on poverty alleviation. This family is philanthropic and the head of the family is a very successful business owner who is known for his deal-making prowess. The travel company has some connections to small local schools, orphanages and conservation organizations, but not in this issue area. Indaba can be brought in as a special consultant to assess the family's interests and objectives, research organizations addressing poverty alleviation (both non-profit and for-profit) within the specified geographic location, and refine the options with the client. We can also quarterback all the details for this portion of the trip.
