At Philanthropy Indaba, we match the world's most critical issues to the world's
most compelling destinations for a truly transformational experience - creating a
new gold standard for meaningful travel.
Indaba offers pre-planned departures as well as custom-designed journeys for individuals,
families, groups and organizations. Each journey incorporates visits to carefully vetted social
enterprises, remote communities, renowned destinations and attractions, and provides our
clients with meaningful hands-on experiences and expertly facilitated group discussions with
local thought-leaders. Indaba works in partnership with the best tour operators and lodging in
each destination and our experienced philanthropic advisors skillfully guide each journey. A
small donation is provided to every organization we visit as a thank you for hosting our group.
SIGNATURE JOURNEYS are for donors of all experience levels. Its a great way to explore a
new issue or geographic area. Within our Signature Journeys series, we will feature special
trips that focus on Next Generation Philanthropists (college/graduate; young professionals) and
Family Philanthropy.
LUMINARY JOURNEYS are for more experienced donors looking to engage high-level
thought leaders in order to dive more deeply into critical issues and explore solutions that
address systemic change. A prominent thinker in the field will co-lead each Luminary Journey.
NEXT GENERATION PROGRAMS, a subset of our Signature Journeys, are innovative
international learning experiences for next-generation philanthropists of ages 18 to 35. Like
Indaba’s journeys for adults, Next Generation journeys will bring participants together with
social enterprises approaching local problems in creative ways.
As participants journey together, meeting and reflecting on the work of local organizations, we
will continue to ask: what can we do? A key focus of these programs will be to train next
generation family members on philanthropy – a perennial issue of concern for many wealthy
parents and grandparents. Participants will grow by analyzing complex issues, navigating other
cultures respectfully, understanding different approaches to making change and assessing the
impact of those approaches. Ultimately, our goal is to help young people become more
engaged global citizens, use their wealth for good, and make responsible, impactful choices in
their own careers and with family assets.
